Background of Business
Pro Financial Fitness (PFF) is a start-up business which started in September 2020. The Founder/CEO is Mark Prokop of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. From 2001 to 2020, Mark worked in the North Carolina non-profit field, from a Bookkeeper to an All In One Financial Show (where he did Bookkeeping, Accounting, Payroll, Internal and External Reporting, Grants Management, and Human Resources) to being an Executive Director – 3 times – (one of which he founded), to being on multiple Board of Directors. From those experiences, Mark was motivated to start Pro Financial Fitness as he appreciates the work that North Carolina non-profits are carrying out and he wants to see them financially managed properly, stay in good shape, and stay out of trouble with the IRS and State of North Carolina.

Extra notes
Meeting with Anise Robinson – Student Engagement and Events Program Manager – May 2, 2023
First, I get things done better if I work with someone
For example, if I have a set of business cards/flyers/etc. and if I want to contact them, I’d need someone to chat with me about every business card/flyer/etc. to see how the connection was made and where I met the person. I have some of the flyers/cards from an event in Charlotte NC.

1. In general, Pro Financial Fitness (PFF) needs people (student or community members) to bring in income for the business and carry out all parts of the business. I am 59 years old and I need people who are younger than I am, have more energy than I do, have more time than I do, etc. See https://www.profinancialfitness.com/tax-and-accounting-services-careers
2. Pro Financial Fitness is a for-profit LLC business based out of Chapel Hill, NC (i.e. based out of my house)
3. It was set up to provide the following services: Bookkeeping, Accounting, Payroll, Consulting, Training, and Board of Director retreats for NC non-profits.
4. Most commonly asked questions are
a. Do you help non-profits in other states?
b. Do you do accounting for for-profit businesses?
c. Do you do taxes?
d. The answer is “No” but if I find the right person, place, etc. to work with, then I’d consider the idea and expand the business.
5. I started the business in Sept 2020. PFF earned
a. $75 in 2020 (and had $796.28 expenses in 2020)
b. $2,405.00 in 2021 ($700.37 expenses in 2021)
c. $5,463.11 in 2022 ($3,058.63 expenses in 2022)
d. $6,141.52 so far in 2023 ($5,476.35 expenses so far)
6. Paid grant writer $9,600.00 out of my pocket in 2022 – Received $1,500.00 from Orange County Economic Development Program. This year, I am paying General Services Foundation (a high school and college lead non-profit) $3,000.00 this year to write 3 different grants, the last one will be for another Orange County Economic Development Program.

b. Help keep NC non-profits in good shape and out of trouble with the IRS and State of NC
10. If a student (or person from the community) in is interested in volunteering (at first and earn money as things happens) and knows how to do taxes, for profit accounting, carry out board of director retreats, do consulting, training, etc. then I could use that person. I could also train them on how to do fund accounting (i.e. non-profit accounting)
11. If there are Accounting/Business School students then those are a good fit to move this business forward in a big way. But if there is a non-Accounting/Business School student who is motivated to move the company forward in a big way, then that’s who I am really looking for too. Journalism students, English majors, Communication Majors, etc. could be a good fit to write/publish articles about the business and also use their skills to gain angel investors.
12. If a student wants to just do “business networking” – in person and/or on zoom, then that’s great.
13. If someone wants to buy my business (now or 2-3 years from now), that’s also what I am looking for. Someone who wants to take over the business and run with it…..and let me be a volunteer and then maybe get paid later on.
