What is 1789?
1789, powered by Innovate Carolina, was founded with the belief that anything is possible when the right people are brought together. 1789’s current co-working space is located at 173 1/2 E. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill – above Ye Olde Waffle Shop.
With its origins as a Venture Lab, 1789 has expanded its scope to include anyone at the university who shares its mission to build a more innovative campus, and offers co-working space to students interested in working in entrepreneurship and creative collaboration. More than a space, though, 1789 provides workshops, office hours, events, and hosts classes as well. While we love fresh ideas that move the world forward, we are also committed to your development. Just as it is our mission to help student entrepreneurs succeed, we also have built a community dedicated to giving you opportunities to learn and get ready for a job after college.
Now powered by Innovate Carolina, 1789 offers members connections to Carolina’s innovative community programs such as The Shuford Program (Entrepreneurship Minor). , the Campus Y, Launch and more. <> CIP is an online platform with a social component that only allows students to take their idea to the next level, but also allows them to collaborate with peers and receive feedback from mentors. Can’t make it to the physical space as often as you’d like? No worries! CIP is the virtual presence of 1789. Set-up video conference, compete in competitions and access resources from the platform at any time.
