Meet Mathew Atisa
Q & A
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be and why?
If I were a super hero, my superpower would be superintelligence. I would be able to solve some of the world's biggest problems. Push the frontier in math, physics, medicine, biology, computer science and every field. The end result would allow for greater wealth and prosperity around the world and usher in a new age of technological advancement and reduce suffering all around the world.
What does innovation mean to you?
Innovation isn't simply an action, but a drive that stems from a world view that sees opportunities rather than obstacles. Innovation is the process of groping in the darkness, treading where no one else has been to discover the treasure mine of endless possibilities. Innovation isn't confined to STEM. Innovation is the act of turning dreams into reality just like MLK's dream of the future became true. Innovation is the process of pushing the frontiers of human understanding and is the reason for humanities accomplishments. This why innovation means so much to me.
What was your favorite toy as a kid?
As a child me and my friends enjoyed battling each other with the sticks we found in the woods. We enjoyed going trekking in the woods using our sticks as poles. We loved acting, pretending to be old men using our sticks as canes. The oldest toy known to man was my favorite toy, because of how it brought us together and allowed us to create memories we will one day share with our children.
Where is your favorite place on
campus and why?
Lenoir dining hall. Not necessarily because of the food. The food is good but because of the many meals I shared there with classmates, strangers, and long time friends.
