1789 Visitor Reservations

No reservations are being taken at this time.1789 is closed due to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority.

Thank you for your interest in the student coworking space.  Innovate Carolina manages the 1789. We are within the Vice Chancellor’s Office of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.

We welcome your requests for all events or meetings related to Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The space is free to use. Therefore if and when possible, we ask that you open your event for all 1789 members to attend. We would love to help promote your event. We are also available to educate your group about the 1789 space and resources across the entire campus for students engaged in innovative or entrepreneurial activities. Please email kimi.yingling@unc.edu with the details you would like promoted and/or a request for an info session at your next event. UNC Staff and faculty as well as community members are welcome to submit requests. However, preference always goes to 1) 1789 Members 2) UNC students and clubs 3) UNC Faculty and staff 4) others

How does it work?

You can submit requests for anything that does not conflict with a current reservation.  Please submit your request at least 5 business days in advance by following the steps below.

You will receive a response email response within 3 business days. If approved we will arrange for you to pick-up a visitor key the week of your event. At the conclusion of your event, please drop your visitor key in the lockbox in the space. Here are some other important things to note:

  •   You must clean up after your entire group-there is no daily trash service. There are cleaning supplies and trash bags located in the white bookshelf across from the women’s bathroom.
  • Unfortunately this space is located on the second floor and there is no elevator. There are 27 steps. This should be taken into account when planning and marketing your event as it is not handicap accessible.
  • We cannot guarantee complete privacy, as students may be working in other sections of the space and office hours will still be held. We generally do not have any problems with this.

Requests more than four months in advance will not be approved. Summer requests will not be approved at this time. Please email kimi.yingling@unc.edu with your needs.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have or meet you to show you around the space. If you would like to engage more with students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship, please let us know. We are always looking for mentors, coaches, speakers and community members looking to get involved. If you are a UNC affiliated individual personally engaged in work related to innovation and entrepreneurship and are not familiar with our office, please check us out. We are here to help! Finally, remember to stay on top of all upcoming events related to innovation and entrepreneurship by signing up for our newsletter.
