Internship Job Description:
Role Overview
As R&D Scientist, you will be key to our product development efforts in the wet lab. You’ll design and run experiments, work hands-on with biological specimens, and help us understand the material and fluidic properties of our core specimen. This work has direct impact on the direction of our technology.
What You’ll Do
• Design and execute wet lab experiments to support product development
• Handle, process, and analyze biological specimens following established safety and handling protocols
• Characterize material and fluidic properties of specimens, applying rheological principles
• Develop and iterate on experimental approaches based on findings
• Maintain detailed lab records and communicate results clearly to the team
• Collaborate closely with founders to shape R&D direction
Qualifications
Required
• Completed Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field (graduate degree / PhD strongly preferred)
• Demonstrated experience working with blood and biological specimens in a laboratory setting
• Strong foundation in materials science and fluid mechanics, with practical understanding of rheology
• Proficiency in wet lab techniques, experimental design, ELISA methods and data analysis in Excel
• Ability to work on-site at our Chapel Hill lab (in-person role); reliable transportation required
• Motivated and self-starter
Nice to Have
• Experience in a startup or early-stage research environment
• Background in diagnostics, point-of-care technologies, or biomarker research
• Familiarity with menstrual health or reproductive biology
• Skillset in R and Python
Commitment
Engagements can range from one month to the full program duration of 9-12 months. We’re open to whatever works for the right candidate. Full-time is preferred, though we’re happy to hear from candidates who can commit to at least 6 hours per day.
